About us...
Classic Marquees is a family owned business based in York, we provide high quality framed marquees for almost any event. It was started in 1994 by Ray, Peter and Nigel Smith as a diversification of our farming business. By 1996 it had grown to be our main business and now provides work for several full time employees and numerous seasonal staff.
Ray is the senior partner and keeps a watchful eye over the running of the whole business. Peter runs the operation of the business and Nigel is head of sales. Peter and Nigel act as site managers in the summer and with the help of our colleagues we deliver the jobs with success every time.
We tend to complete larger events over 3 or 4 days using a smaller team. This gives the marquee time to “evolve” as changes can be made during the build. Nothing is cast in stone and some of the best ideas we have had have come during the build. In this way our customers are more relaxed to see their marquee started on a Tuesday or Wednesday and evolving through the week. They are often on first name terms with our team members and know their requirements for tea and coffee without asking.
Weddings and parties are the main focus of our business but we provide marquees for almost any occasion. All our marquees and equipment are kept and maintained to a high standard. PVC and linings are regularly renewed. We offer a choice of chairs, lighting, linings and carpeting. All the marquees can be fitted with hard wooden floor.
Our marquees can be used all year round as our thermostatically controlled heaters keep them pleasantly warm. As an example of just how good our heaters are is that our busiest week of the year is 20th December.
